Academic Plan Part III
After doing self-assesment-career research and educational programs I end up with a strong decition to be in the construction industry as a Construction Manager. Now that I identify the program of study to follow to reach my goal; and looking to graduate on December 2017, so I will have to apply for graduation on October 1st; my academic plan looks like this:
To better prepare myself
As a right now I'm working for a General contractor as a construction helper so I can get hands on experience, that will helo me in a big way, Also, to prepare even better I'm looking for other jobs or interships where I can have a closer look in the managerial part of the bussiness so I can have a complete look and experience from different parts of this career.
Another thing I'm going to do is to look for learning material of specific areas that my career program may not include, if possible, I'd like to take other trainning to acquire more knowledge and maybe certifications related to construction so I can have a broader understanding of the bussines; and be open and prepare for diffent type of maagferial possitions in this industry.
Challenges I will encounter
Time
I'm a Husband, father of a awesome 11 years old and 2 fun toddlers, also work full time. I can't beleive how I'm making time for school, but this is something that I must do. Education is very important for me. It is going to be a very challenging journey, but with good time management, dedication and sacrify it is going to be possible.
Language
Although I speak fluent english, my primary language is spanish, I can understand about 98% and express myself in english in about a 85%. Beleive it or not, those 2% can make a big different in traying to understand a lecture class where you may listen to words that never heard before or teachers and students talk to fast; or sometimes not being able to express my ideas and opinions clearly because my english in someway is limited. I hope by the fact that I'm going to school and practicing my writting, reading, and spech more often, i'll get to fills those gaps, also by taking english and communications classes.
Work
I have a full time job and can't afford to work less. This situation don't leave me with enough time to attend to school, limiting my hours from being a full time student to a 3/4 or half time student pushing further my graduation goal. I'm implementing the method of taking some classes online and some in person.
